Originally creating the birdhouses and having squirrels tear them apart, extensive research was done on how to keep the squirrels away! With some trial and error (with help from the squirrels!) a way to keep them off it was using hot pepper! This mixture also works with chipmunks as well as deer (hot pepper is a natural deer repellant).
With a variety of sizes, it will be hard to just choose one! The seed on the houses vary and can attract your normal backyard birds! Located in Massachusetts we see chickadees, tufted tit mouse, wren’s, and nuthatches. Different parts of the country will attract different kinds of birds!
The “edible glue” that’s made to hold the seed and embellishments on the birdhouses and for the birdseed ornaments consists of water, flour, corn syrup and gelatin! All Regular sized houses have a tag that comes with them giving the recipe to recreate the edible glue for those that want to put more seed on the house!!
